Summary/Abstract: The tale of the adventures of the Holy Cross (its captivity in Persia, its liberation by Heraclius, its return to Jerusalem and, finally, the reinvention of its part in Rome) is widely spread in Old Russian literacy. The comparison with the extant Latin version proves that the translation was made from Latin, but from a text superior to the oldest surviving Latin copy. In all probability, we deal here with a rare example of Sázava translation activity.
