Summary/Abstract: The article deals with some significant lexemes found in the Bulgarian translation of Vita Sancti Hilarionis, which was undertaken during the First Bulgarian Kingdom and preserved in copies from the 14th to the 17th centuries (just the South Slavic copies are taken into consideration). The archaisms and Grecisms are extracted, then the synonyms are commented upon (incl. contextual synonyms) together with some semantic errors. It turns out that, on the one hand, the copies of the Vita in Dragomirna MS 700 and Hilferding MS 56 tend to modernise the archaic words, while on the other hand, the different readings reflect the lack of both stable norms and of comparison with the Greek source.
