Summary/Abstract: Polls conducted in Israel in late 2003 found that the prevailing view among Israelis was that prolongation of the al-Aqsa intifada, mounting political and economic instability in the Palestinian Authority (PA) and unremitting terrorist attacks inside the Green Line, or pre-1967 borders, were having an increasingly damaging effect on the State of Israel’s economic situation. A majority of respondents believed that this strategy could only be changed by decisive action by the Sharon government which might also involve “painful compromises” with the Palestinians, including on territorial issues.
