Summary/Abstract: The fall of South Eastern Europe communist regimes, after 1989, and after that, USSR dismantling lead to a reconfiguration of regional and international relations developed by the states from the region, most of them being held, until that moment, in the USSR influence area. Like other states from the region, Romania chose its strategic options by adhering to Occidental values and becoming a member of the European Union and NATO. In this context, the relations with Russia were developed on renewed coordinates.
