Summary/Abstract: It became obvious for many (O. Spengler, S. Frank) after October 1917 that, to a considerable degree, Lev Tolstoy prepared bolshevism ideologically. That ‘prabolshevism’ traced its roots back to the writer’s world view: to his antihistorism (the negation of Europe’s ideals and history of Russia), rejection of the institutes of the state, rejection of Orthodox Church, cultural nihilism, apology of common people and cult of physical work. The extremist moralist became, against his own intentions, an ally of the most inhumane system.
