Summary/Abstract: The paper aims at understanding the post-transition period from a modernization theoretical point of view by reinterpreting various empirical researches. The analytical framework was elaborated in the essay „A unified theory of classical and late modernity” based on the theories of Bourdieu, Habermas, Giddens and Lash. Based on the empirical review, we may conclude that in Hungary the integration logics of classical and late modernity strengthen each other’s pathological tendencies instead of counterbalancing them. As a result, segregated social spheres emerged, where the problems of inequalities, dogmatic interactions, reification are added to problems like ontological insecurity, risks and identity construction.
