Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to elaborate upon afflictions and difficult situations amongst women sentenced to long-term in prison. First part of the article is a theoretical foundation. Firstly, the author discussed difficult situations and afflictions experienced by people imprisoned, jointly for both genders. However, perceptible elements of the described collection of complaints as well as their levels of complexity are personal for every condemned person; and their activation is dependent not only on a one’s personality, situation before being incarcerated and type of correctional facility but also on the sentenced person’s gender. Thus undertaken problematic aspects required a separate presentation of issues bound up with incarcerated women experiencing afflictions due to their sentence. Second part of the study is an analysis of author’s research, conducted in the Prison no. 1 in Grudziądz. Article ends with the author’s conclusions, concerning difficulties of women serving long-term sentences in prison.
