Summary/Abstract: This study argues the importance of Bernardin de Saint – Pierre`s work in the aesthetic context of the 18th Century. It explains the existence of the Classicism (ending) and that of the Romanticism (ascending) in one novel, Paul et Virginie (or Paul and Virginia), starting from the idea of bringing together the joint essence of the two literary trends. Our piece of work identifies aesthetic reflexes that mark on one hand the differences and, on the other, the continuity of the successive artistic trends at multiple levels: message, narrative approach, character typology, vision of love and natural setting.
