Evolution of Constitutive, Definitional Element of a Town Personality on the Romanian Territory

Summary/Abstract: Along the centuries, from one case to another, the time registered those elements which particularized, individualized the human emplacements which by their operational characteristics captured the statute of a town. These were defined by emplacement, the area which was in an organic interdependence with, a vocation with the predilection of putting into value new resources related to the limitrophe zones, roads, water courses, and means for the values protection which are stored in these towns for a longer or a shorter time. Events of conflict nature, epidemics, fires, floods, conflicts of social nature, marked the existence, growing or decrement of such human emplacements, their economic potential being also reflected by the endowments which, in time, became symbol elements of heraldic facture synthesizing the history, biography of such an emplacement. Not only once, a certain primordial functionality, a craft generated products which began to be so much requested that the symbol elements defined the personality of the respective town. In some other cases, an event like that of a catastrophe with consequences of demographic nature imposed to the successors the achievement of a symbol which became a defining one to the respective town. The case of epidemic pest, wars, fires, thefts, lost in human lives, range of all the constraints including the holding captive, imposed to those who escaped to convey to the future generations, as a warning, by the mean of a memorial, the evoking message. Generally, such symbols were meant to become a message with an endless time character. The metamorphose, missing of decision, destructive events marked their existence from a slow damage, changing of emplacement, functionality to their gross removal, being considered as an old-fashioned thing which is no more in concordance with the new époque. Today, the knowledge of their biography is an imperious need in order to give them the due protection as a component part of the place history.
