Summary/Abstract: Honest and reliable measurement of socioeconomic development is not an easy task because it requires careful selection of suitable indicators. These indicators can be divided due to different criteria. One of them is the division due to the level of aggregation of data. It allows to specify detailed indicators and synthetic indicators. The aim of this paper is to present the changes in the field of measurement of socioeconomic development based on traditional indicator i.e.GDP per capita and indicators based on national accounts. In addition, in the article were signaled challenges for the measurement based on synthetic indicators that are used by the United Nations for international comparisons. The study was completed detailing the specific indicators used by Eurostat and CSO.
