Summary/Abstract: Liberal reform of the last Soviet leader Michail Gorbachev, well known as restructuring (perestroika) and openness (glasnost’), led to disintegration of the Soviet Union. Development of the intellectual opposition as well as first illegal political parties in the late 80s had big influence on the process of emerging of the party system and political life in the Russian Federation. The aim of the article is to present ideological roots of the dissident movement, changes in the Soviet law that led to pluralism and the process of forming first political parties in contemporary Russia.
