Summary/Abstract: The main aim of the article is to present the foundations and benefits of establishing and implementing a long term model of regulation of Gas Transmission Operators in Poland. This econometric model is based on the unit cost benchmarking process of the core-business mechanisms and first time in the Polish gas business history has been officially approved by The Energy Regulation Bureau for the next three years. The model is treated as a pioneer solution in the Polish energy business. The model ensures: stable regulated income increase during the next three years, decrease of the return on investment gap and neutralization of gas distribution tariffs decrease over the course of next years. The approved regulation model provides an opportunity for a more clarified and efficient negotiation process of distribution tariffs. It is an important tool in value enhancement of the Polish gas transmission business.
