Summary/Abstract: Elfriede Jelinek's opus is centered around the idea of body surveillance, evidenced in the examples of the novel The Piano Teacher (1983) and the play A Sport Play (1998).The renewed interest in the aforementioned play, right before the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England, refocused Jelinek's lament about the body surveillance that oversees the achievement of top results in the world of art or sports. These two works by Jelinek function as each other's binary, namely an image and its negative, in the same way the two spheres of corporeality and spirituality mirror each other's reflection within Western culture.
