Summary/Abstract: The central element of this paper is Mattei Dogan's article, "Urban Gigantism - 320 giant cities". The urban gigantism is a malady of modern societies, a sociological malady. Nowadays, giant cities are proliferating, in spite of a aggravation of phenomena like poverty, criminality, the decrease of the living standard, etc. For example, the megalopolises are developing especially in the third world countries: Latin America, Africa, Asia. The urban gigantism must be understood like a shift not only in the aspect of the physical space occupied by a human settlement (….), but as a shift in the collective conscience of the populations.
