Summary/Abstract: The article presents an analysis of speech development of one Polish-speaking childstarting from the use of fixed rote-learnt phrases to abstract schemas, which allow forproduction of novel adult-like utterances. The research, which is based on dense corpusdata, is an attempt to trace the changes in the child’s speech and explain them on the basisof Cognitive Linguistics assumptions.
