Summary/Abstract: No great event in the world-history has been more thoroughly examined and commented upon in all its details than the French Revolution. And certainly no human being has ever been commented more frequently and with more intolerable detail than Robespierre. The facts, all the documents, protocols, and reports on the revolution and the individual Robespierre could fill several freight cars. And yet, at least in many respects, the events remain inconceivable, and the person ultimately unlikely and unexplained. We know the speeches, the writings and the deeds of Robespierre, we know all the details of his life, including the fact that his bedspread was made of an old dress of Madame Duplay. But even with all this knowledge, it is still difficult for historical research to make the image of a man in front of us, which somehow corresponds to the general ideas.
