MAKTAB CLASSES – BETWEEN THEORY AND PRACTICE

Summary/Abstract: Maktab is the beginning and elementary education institution at the level of jamaat within the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Historically, maktab played an important role in the education process, representing the first, elementary and preparatory stage where youth learned the basic principles of the Islamic faith. This paper provides an insight in the maktab curriculum and specific aspects of practical maktab classes, as well as challenges faced by teachers.
