Prejudice and Correct Picture. Remarks on the State of Art in Germany

Summary/Abstract: Today, the visual arts in Germany remain in a state of a special kind, although, since 1945, comparisons and links have become visible, which point to the artistic views of France or even Italy. The peculiarity lies not in the often-mentioned peculiarity, which is often characterized as one-sidedness, that the Germans had ever had a graphic vision more than a painterly or sculptural one. This distinction may still exist. But what separates German artists from the rest of European art, whether they accept or not, are two difficulties, which are more recent and contemporary, almost political.
