Summary/Abstract: In September, Belgian and French poets had invited poets from all European countries to the "Ren-contres Européennes de Poésie" in Knokke, the Belgian Biarritz. The meeting was under the patronage of the Belgian Prime Minister, the PEN club and UNESCO. It was headed by Arthur Haulot and Pierre Louis Flouquet. Among the guests were, beside others, Gottfried Benn, Wilhelm Lehmann, Hans Egon Holthusen, Alexander Lernet-Holenia, and Rudolf Hagelstange, who is dealing in this text with some fundamental considerations on the questions raised in Knokke.
