Summary/Abstract: In this article, some problems that occur in empirical research on cultural capital and educational inequalities will be discussed. The importance of including knowledge in the process of operationalising cultural capital will be pointed out in this article, since cultural capital is not conceptually distinct and independent of knowledge. We claim that knowledge is integrated in all three forms of cultural capital – embodied, objectified and institutionalized, and the primary problem is detecting what kind of knowledge could be discussed in context of analysis of cultural capital, which we defined as the knowledge of the legitimate culture acquired in primary socialization which will be reworded in educational system. Considering these problems, we conclude in this article that it is necessary to identify the mechanisms of intergenerational transmission of cultural capital in empirical research.
