Summary/Abstract: Demographic and social changes lead to the increasing numbers of people requiring care and the decreasing number of potential caregivers. This phenomenon is particularly difficult in Poland. Due to the lack of system solutions, but also Polish culture, care is organized primarily in the private sphere. For that reasons it is necessary to provide support for informal carers of the elderly. The purpose of this article is to diagnose the situation of family carers; types of support, and major problems that are associated with care. Article is based on qualitative research conducted among persons performing care on dependent seniors. Based on obtain information types of support and the types of care were distinguished, as well as problems resulting from the role played by the examined person.
