Summary/Abstract: The paper presents Hugo Rahner, one of the great theologians of the 20th century, from the perspective of ecclesiology, his important area of research. H. Rahner’s ecclesiology is shaped by a close relationship with Christ and it passes on varied imagery of the birth of the Church from the side of Christ, of the Church as a continuing reality of Christ, of her dramatic journey through the history in her weakness, of her scandalising visibility and her already victorious joy. This emphasis was eventually expanded in the Patristic symbols of the Church. Rahner’s theology is characterised by its strong kerygmatic focus, and it is intertwined with the theology of the Church Fathers that bring topical inspiration for the today’s Western Church.
