Summary/Abstract: Bielsko and Biała were two separate cities. They were separated by the Biała river, through which the state border ran, which was also the border between Silesia and Lesser Poland. Older and much richer Bielsko had the metropolitan ambitions; Biała, more provincial city, remained in its shadow. Bielsko i Biała to były dwa oddzielne miasta. Dzieliła je rzeka Biała, przez którą przebiegała granica państwowa, także granica Śląska i Małopolski. Starsze i znacznie bogatsze Bielsko miało wielkomiejskie ambicje, Biała, bardziej prowincjonalna, pozostawała w jego cieniu.
