Summary/Abstract: Leasing is an important form of financing an investment in an enterprise. In Poland, the rapid development of leasing took place after the economic transformation related to the system transformation in the 1990s. Leasing changes in economic life were followed by legislative changes. The paper presents selected leasing issues contained in the basic acts of law. The definitions and characteristics of leasing in these regulations are not unequivocal. As shown by the economic history of developed countries, much leasing will increase with the development of market economy. This results in the need to improve leasing law. In a much broader sense, leasing has been defined and discussed in the National Accounting Standard No. 5. The standard takes account of the provisions of the Accounting Act and the Civil Code on leasing contracts, extending them to lease agreements for intangible assets.
