Summary/Abstract: This paper presents an overview of the concept of the most important cities in the international arena, with particular attention to those that are located in Eastern Europe. International arena is dominated by cities located in North America, Western Europe and Southeast Asia. On the other hand, in Eastern Europe a significant number of cities have international connections, but their economic potential and the number of headquarters of the largest companies in the world is relatively small. For this reason except Warsaw there are no command and control centers of the global economy in the region. The positive aspect is, however, an increase in the importance of the largest companies in the region, especially in the context of the decline of the corporations located in Western Europe. The most important economic cities in Eastern Europe include Prague, Warsaw, Budapest and Kiev. It was also noted that Warsaw, despite the greater number of the registered offices, has a smaller international capacity than Prague.
