Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to analyze Asia-Pacific international relations from a US-China bilateral perspective. In 2016, due to its good economic performance, China strengthened its international position in the region. It also undertook many offensive diplomatic actions such as: improvement of bilateral relations with the Philippines, setting Asian International Investment Bank, or launching the silk road initiative. On balance, failure of the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement was a set-back for the United States, but at the same time it improved China’s bargaining position against other countries in the region.
