Summary/Abstract: This figure of the tsar for a long time was of little interest to historians. Only in the centenary of the death of the Emperor, the censor allowed the printing of memoirs explaining the circumstances of his murder. These materials were used by two writers - Mereżkowski in the drama of Paweł Pierwszy and Chodasiewicz in an unfinished novel-life (contractual title - Paweł). Both authors try to give an objective assessment of the role of the emperor as a man and a ruler, and even seek to rehabilitate this ruler, considered quite commonly and tendently "mad at the throne."
