Summary/Abstract: The myth of the "new man" was a component of the Soviet utopian ideology, which theoretically sought to change the old world and the formation of a communist paradise on earth. This led the Bolsheviks to deny and destroy the "bourgeois" culture and create a new - a communist one. Its creator must be a "new man." In the process of its creation, fiction and criticism, especially of a proletarian origin, played a significant role, and at the same time a few polemical works arose, among them the novel by Veniamin Kaverin The Artist Unknown (1931) This work was an attempt at protection Independence of art and freedom of creativity of the artist, who is the heir of the old noble culture.
