Summary/Abstract: Suicide behavior in children and adolescents is a leading cause of in jury and death in the paediatric age group. Recent statistics indicate that the number of suicides and suicide-related events in adolescents has risen in past few years. Boys succeed in their suicide attempts more frequently than girls, mainly because they use more lethal methods,such as firearms or hanging. Girls generally attempt suicide by ingesting pills andare more frequently resuscitated. According to the literature, there are following risk factors of suicide: demographic, psychological, psychiatric, economic, bilogical. Information about the epidemiology and risk factors of such behavior is important forpolicy-making and prevention. The method of suicide prevention found to be most effective is a systematic, direct-screening procedure, early identification and cooperationof different institutions with high risk groups and families.
