The civic values of residents of Łódź – the level and conditioning

Summary/Abstract: The main objective of the article is to analyze the selected values related to the civic status of residents of Lódz, relevant in the context of building civic society. The analysis regarded two aspects. First, the authors tried to determine the residents’ of Lódz general attitude to public goods; second, they tried to analyze the citizens’ reactions to incidents of breaking the law in their neighbourhoods. The empirical basis for the presented data were the results of the representative quantitative research realized under the project “Revival of postindustrial peripheral cities”, conducted on a sample of 700 adult residents of Lódz. The project was carried out with the financial aid of the National Center for Science in the years 2011–2014. The research shows that the residents of Lódz are characterized by a minor concern for the public good and a low level of interest in social issues.
