Summary/Abstract: South Asia, East Asia and South-East Asia have a significant number of recipientsof Official Development Assistance (ODA), including the Least Developed Countries. The importanceof this part of the world in terms of global trade and geopolitics is self-evident andcontributes to the reasons why major members of the OECD Development Assistance Committee(DAC), including Japan and South Korea, have a clear interest in being actively engaged indevelopment cooperation within the region. There are, however, at least five emerging donorstates, also active in the region, who operate outside the framework of the DAC. The aim of thetext is to provide a brief comparative analysis of the development activities of: India, the PeoplesRepublic of China, the Republic of China, Singapore and Thailand.
