TWO YEARS OF USING THE PROLIB SYSTEM IN THE LIBRARY OF MAJOR SEMINARY IN TARNOW

Summary/Abstract: The articles describes in details the conversion of the collections in the Library of Major Seminary in Tarnow. The process was implemented in 2011 in two stages: first, the formats MARC BN were changed into MARC 21 under the program of MAK and later a new program PROLIB M21 was introduced. A comparison of two library systems – MAK and PROLIB has also been made. Although the administrator of MAK offers more possibilities, PROLIB has a lot of different advantages such as possibility to cooperate with the RFID system, which enhances the safety of the library collection and improves serving the readers. It was underlined that PROLIB is a stable system and the library has not experienced any failures for the last two years. The whole system is centralized and each piece of information is visible everywhere. All this as a consequence translates into both library and users’ satisfaction.
