Summary/Abstract: In the age of rapid development of digital technology also libraries increasingly often take advantage of the possibilities of new technologies. Librarians have adapted a number of internet tools typical of the Web 2.0 phenomenon by using social media which have become an alternative way of communication and a tool of promotion. Focusing on selected cases, the paper presents the questions of using social media for promoting library activities. The most popular social media working in the Web and possibilities of their use for public relations purposes have been discussed. Th e article describes norms of content publication in social media, a code of good practice and methods of making communications more attractive. The paper offers an analysis of benefits and dangers arising from the use of new tools of communication with the user.
