Summary/Abstract: The article aims at discussing the interrelations between the technique of aleatoric composition and the poetic practices of Surrealism. Taking as a case study one of the most characteristic pieces by Witold Lutosławski from the 1960s. (Trois poèmes d’Henri Michaux) one can point to musical strategies that correspond to surrealist poetics of dream, juxtaposition and the concept of accident. For Lutosławski is trying to create a music language which would reflect the poetics of Michaux's text – thus he reaches for some innovative means of expression such as: he introduces music images preceding the text, he introduces thearicalisation of music (in the 3rd part), he employs unsteady sound in the form of sound magma. Doubtless owing to these effects, there emerges a bond between the musical and the literary texts.
