Summary/Abstract: Referring to the book by Henryk Markiewicz, the author addresses the issues of the theory of poetic language as a comprehending of the incomprehensible, where comprehending is conceived as an introduction of a new notion within one's own system. Metaphor is treated here as an exemplary strategy of the poetic language and is juxtaposed with a joke as a form of its desacralisation. The author describes the notion of the scale of the metaphor as the measuring of the distance between the basis and the medium.
