Summary/Abstract: Food products are the most important group of consumer goods. The main objective of this article is to analyse the changes in demand for food in Poland in the years 2000-2012. In his work, the author used statistical and physiological measures of consumption, inter alia, the average monthly consumption of food expressed in natural units as well as the average daily consumption converted to energy value and nutrients. As the analyses show, in the period in question in Poland, there took place significant changes in the quantitative pattern of consumption of the majority of basic products of vegetable and animal origin. The basic direction of changes is reduction of consumption, and especially bread, milk and fruit and vegetables. Energy value of the average daily food consumption in Poland in 2000-2012 decreased by 187 kcal. The changes in the period in question also concerned the daily consumption per nutrients. There took place an alteration of the pattern to the benefit of animal protein as well as a decrease of volumes of fats and carbohydrates in the average diet of Poles.
