The Effect of Urban Development on Air Quality and Particle Matter Pollutıon In Eastern Black Sea Region Cities

Summary/Abstract: Development of industry and technology brought together the factor of urbanization. Various environmental problems such as air pollution emerged together with the concept of rapid urbanisation. In this study, a research was done about air pollution which is caused due to particle matters in Artvin, Bayburt, Giresun, Gümüşhane, Ordu, Rize, Trabzon within the boundaries of Eastern Black Sea Region and PM10 contaminant was evaluated. Hourly PM10 concentration data for 2010-2014 years belonging to The Eastern Black Sea Region cities were obtained from T.R. Ministry of Environment and Urbanization Air Quality Monitoring Stations WEB site. Measurement results were compared and evaluated with Air Quality Evaluation and Management Regulation, European Union Air Quality Standards, USA National Air Quality Standards and Long and Short Term Limit Values belonging to World Health Organization. With this study it was determined that the cities which have the highest air quality in the sense of PM10 in the Black Sea Region were Giresun and Artvin and the cities which have the lowest quality were Trabzon and Gümüşhane.
