Founded in Zaonezhie in 1694 Vygoretskaya poustinia, which eventually grew into one of the largest book centers with its own literary school, brought up a generation of talented writers. Among them was Trifon Petrov, the author who had a significant bearing on the development of homiletics in the Vyg community. The article analyzes the structure of the writer’s solemn words in terms of its compliance with the requirements laid down by the library community books on rhetoric. The study showed that the writer followed these guidelines strictly. It is reflected in the structure and content of his works. Nevertheless, even in the frames of rhetoric the writer was able to find a place to express his erudition, imagination and writing skills. Trifon Petrov used this space to the full extent.
