Summary/Abstract: According to Russian law, languages of the Russian Federation are protected by the government. However, many minority languages in Russia with the number of native speakers being around 100 000 are on the verge of extinction. A doctor of arts discusses reasons behind the deplorable situation of some ethnic languages in Russia.
