Summary/Abstract: This paper attempts to make a historiographical reconstruction of the biographical data of Royal Yugoslav Colonel and Nedić's general Kosta Mušicki. He had a prominent military career during the interwar period, and he belonged to a reported group of ”elite” officers, resulting in his recommendation for the post of King Alexander's and later Queen Mary's adjutant. However, he is best known as the commander of the Serbian Volunteer Corps during the Second World War and the German occupation. In late October 1944, he withdrew his Serbian units from the path of the advancing Red Army and partisans. In May 1945, Musicki ended up in Allied POW camps in Italy, from where he was extradited to the new Yugoslav authorities in January 1946. He was tried at the trial of Draža Mihailović, was sentenced to death, and was executed on 17 July 1946. Although he did not adhere to the ideology of the Zbor movement (whose members and supporters were the backbone of the first volunteer units), he explained during post-war interrogations that his command was characterized by existential actions and a deep conviction for the pacification of occupied Serbia as a way to preserve the Serbian nation from the devastating effect of German reprisals. The fact remains, however, that Musicki collaborated with the brutal occupation regime and that his actions during the war made him at least partially responsible for the crimes of that regime.
