Using of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in the Management of Large Buildings

Summary/Abstract: In recent years there has been the development of research on the use of digital imagesfrom Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) for the technical inspection of buildings. This articlediscusses the legal and technical conditions of UAV periodic inspection and the currentresearch on the possibilities of using digital images obtained by UAVs in real estate management.It presents the results of an experiment on the use of the quadrocopter equipped withhigh-resolution camera for the visual assessment of the rooftop of a particular type of largeproperty: an office building. The digital images obtained from the Unmanned Aerial Vehicleused to the inspection of the technical condition are presented as examples. The technology isbased on modern methods of acquiring image data, with the latest developments in automatedmapping techniques, create new opportunities in real estate management – in particularthe sectors of Facility Management and Building Information Modelling.
