Summary/Abstract: Gaining a competitive advantage in today’s economic reality is an extremely difficulttask, because the determinant of competitiveness is not just offered by the company productsand services, but by an unique and specific knowledge, which builds the intellectualcapital. The competitive advantage requires from companies among others: an innovationand flexibility, as well as the ability to quick and effective respond to changes occurring inthe environment. The success of the company is built by an unique, intangible and difficultto imitate resources – the intellectual capital. Accordingly, there is a need to consider theissue of intellectual capital and its impact on business innovation. The article is theoreticalin nature, and its goal is to present the essence of intellectual capital and its impact on businessinnovation.
