Summary/Abstract: Article aim: in their study, the authors presented qualitative research findings concerning the cognitive, emotional and behavioural components of attitudes displayed by school-age children towards food and diet. Type of the used research methodology: in order to learn the way of children’s thinking, evaluation and reaction to the issues related to food and diet, the authors applied the qualitative methods with the use of focus groups. Main research findings: the authors stated that children were able to correctly identify the food products beneficial to their health as well as to correctly indicate the food whose consumption should be reduced; however, there were revealed difficulties in introduction of that knowledge to children’s daily behaviours. Practical implications: the need to introduce changes in school-age children’s behaviours through development of the proposal of measures, which will take into account the complexity of their attitudes and behaviours towards food and diet, as well as the needs, both emotional and nutritional. Social implications: understanding the way of perception and importance of the correct diet for the school-age children may help in development of the measures that will cause that food of high health qualities will be more accessible to children, perceived as more attractive, and its consumption will be treated as the standard in the peer group.
