Summary/Abstract: Expansion of cities, typical throughout the world,can be observed in Hungary, too. As aconsequence of expansion such valuable sourcesare lost like arable land, water bases and specialhabitats. This process, which is associated with anumber of conflicts, is governed by stronghierarchical systems of regional planning thatconcern very complex systems, therefore theirimpact can only be interpreted in a complex wayand in the long-term. This study introduces, howa so called spatial decision supporting system canassist to territorial planning and decision making.Designers in the Lechner Knowledge CenterNonprofit Ltd. have tested the modeling sytem ofland-use change in several sample projects. Weshow two case studies from these. At first wediscuss how much the decision supporting systemaided environmental impact assessment of theNational Land Use Planning, and then we presentthe modeling results of land use change, appliedin flood risk management and the impact analysisof proposed actions.
