Summary/Abstract: Although the information about the presence of Orthodox Turks in the Balkans dates back to centuries ago, the name Gagauz was encountered for the first time in the first half of the 19th century. However, it was thanks to Mihail Çakır’s activities in the first half of the 20th century that the gagauz were accepted as a Turkish clan and had a literary language as an ethnical group. Among these activities, that the Gagauz descended from the Oguz Turkish tribes was scientifically proven and that the first books on the Gagauz Turkish were published are crucial.
