Summary/Abstract: The historical research on the presence of Islam in Bosnia-Herzegovina and the development of Islamic culture in this region have shown that, from the very beginning of the Ottoman rule (in the first half of the 14th century), and even earlier, the Sufi orders played an important role. This was felt in the process of development of new cities and of the new and more advanced way of life, as well as in the process of expansion of the oriental civilization and culture in general. No doubt, the Mevlevi Sufi order, as well as the work of Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi, played an important and specific role in the spiritual and cultural development of Bosnia-Herzegovina, leaving an important and recognizable mark in its culture.
