Summary/Abstract: The paper points out the difficulty that teacher confronts when trying to incite young people to express orally. It also stresses the crisis of orality in Croatian primary school system. Orality, as a general concept of oral expression of a human being, is symbolically connected with oral literature, thus calling attention to the natural manner in which children absorb the world. The child´s first contact with the world in general, and with literature as well, is oral. Orality is a natural process for children, a sort of word game and it is necessary to keep it as that, at least during primary school. Oral literature, with its simplicity shows the power of words – how easily we can express the complexity of the world to which we belong. The purpose of the paper is to point out the marginal position of oral communication, the necessity of emphasizing the importance of regular oral expression and to underline the perspectives of oral literature in reaching the set goal.
