Summary/Abstract: In view of Europe's economic spread, Ottoman Empire's maritime trade also developed in the 19th century. But this development was rather in favor of European merchants. European companies, benefiting from the capitulations, held the whip hand of maritime trade in the Ottoman coast day by day. Beginning from the end of the century the rescue searches increased for developing the Ottoman maritime trade in favor of the local merchant, ship and boat companies. But the proposed ideas and measures didn't give the desired result. Increasing reactions against foreign maritime trade continued until the repealing of capitulations before the lst World War.
