Summary/Abstract: The paper detects and analyzes different manifestations of escape motifs in Josip Kosor’s short prose. Apart from passion as a dominant motif in Kosor’s opus, the characters of his short prose are usually connected to a kind of movement, change, travel or escape, which in the space of a literary text can appear either physically or imaginary, as an escapist retreat to imagination, daydreaming, social isolation or art. In regards to the autobiographical elements in Kosor’s work, the characters of fugitives, vagabonds, rebels, day-dreamers and bohemians can be related to the author’s own turbulent life.
