Summary/Abstract: The main task of the higher education system, in particular sea profile education, is set to be shaping of a professional picture of the world. A number of requirements for training sea profile specialists are presented in educational standards; among them, cultural and professional competences. Thus, the student should be able to think outside the box in extreme situations, be able to adapt to the conditions of the foreign-language environment, to analyze and process information, to provide communication in English on different topics. An important condition of shaping a professional picture of seamen lays in overcoming cultural and language barriers. In our research, we consider discourse as the form of polyculture communication and the tool of shaping concepts of sea profile specialists. The possibility of communication on the basis of dialogue between representatives of different cultures is the reflection of the seaman’s culture.The concept is formed by the means of communication. The main constituents of the concept are memory and imagination. The need of implementation of professional duties at the high level promotes the development of cultures in the countries of the world. Nowadays, an indisputable fact is that foreign language skills are not the purpose, but the tool while cross-cultural communication appears as the means of thinking and transferring not only information, but also cultural values. In our research, we consider concepts as the unit of mental lexicon, conceptual system of language of the brain, the picture of the world reflected in human mentality.
